At SRI, we are proud to have been able to assist a vast number of clients within the sugarcane processing industry and in other industries, both in Australia and internationally.

Our range of specialties has been extensively utilised to produce successful outcomes, and we offer prospective clients evidence of our activities through client feedback.

Here are some examples:

Jorge Leonard, Ledesma Sugar factory, Argentina writes:

“We have received assistance from SRI in almost all process areas of the factory. The information has been very useful for us to better understand our processing, and almost all SRI’s recommendations are scheduled to be implemented.

“We upgraded a clarifier to the SRI design, built a new flash tank and modified all the piping and control regulation system. There has been a significant improvement, and the quality of the clarified juice from the SRI clarifier is continuing to improve.

“In general we are very satisfied with the assistance of SRI and with the good relations we have, and want to maintain this relation in the future.”

In Australia, Tully Sugar in Far North Queensland has had a long association with SRI.

Tully Sugar Chief Chemist Lloyd Cripps outlines some areas of involvement:

  • Evaluation of environmental performance;
  • Process modelling including boilers;
  • Evaluation of milling train performance;
  • The conversion of a clarifier to a SRI design and subsequent recent improvements to further enhance performance and capacity;
  • Roberts evaporator modifications;
  • The installation of A, B and C grade Continuous pans of SRI design. The first one was commissioned in 1982;
  • Equipment to enhance pan circulation; and
  • Evaluation of the performance of new installations including those not of SRI design.

“These projects have been completed in a timely and professional manner and this reflects the knowledge and experience of the sugar industry that the SRI organisation can make available.”

In Mauritius, Raymond Rivalland, chief operations officer of Société Usinière du Sud (SUDS) writes:

" During the 1999 crushing season, the St Aubin sugar mill boiler experienced tube failures in the convection bank, with significant disruption to the performance of the factory.

“SRI was engaged to minimise these tube failures and small modifications were made to extend the life of the convection bank.

“The modifications were successful in preventing the tube failures and the boiler was steamed for a further 5 years after blanking off some of the thinnest tubes.

“Subsequently in 2004, SRI was engaged to investigate major modifications to the convection bank and other parts of the boiler.

“The aim was to identify the modifications that would provide St Aubin with the best value for money to increase the steam load of the boiler and reduce the wear.

“The analysis was carried out with detailed involvement from St Aubin staff and the boiler manufacturer (Alstom John Thompson Pty Ltd) carrying out the changes.

“Some modifications were carried out for the 2005 crushing season while further changes are planned in the next few years.”
