Continuous Vacuum Pan

continuous vacuum pan

SRI’s continuous vacuum pan (CVP) licensed design packages are offered to Australian clients directly, or through our network of global representatives around the world. Our licensed design packages include these components:

  • Complete fabrication drawings for the licensed number of continuous vacuum pans. The drawings are based on SRI's standard CVP designs, modified as required to suit your specific needs (note that supply of fabrication drawings is subject to strict confidentiality and usage restrictions);
  • Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs);
  • Functional specification documents, covering the pan and control systems;
  • Operator manual; and
  • An on-site commissioning visit to assist with CVP startup and optimisation.

Optional components can include:

  • A pre-design site visit to confirm operational requirements.
  • A fabrication visit to your nominated engineering works during CVP fabrication, to confirm adherence to required standards of construction.
  • Training programmes for operations personnel on-site by our experienced SRI CVP operators.

Many CVP clients specify SRI's Dbrix brix transducers for each CVP cell, ensuring optimal pan control and reduced steam consumption.

An Overview of the SRI Continuous Vacuum Pan

SRI's continuous vacuum pans are a horizontal design and are specified for A, B and C massecuites or swing duties. They have been designed to give outstanding operational results in both new and existing sugar factories. The SRI CVP design:

  • Encourages strong massecuite circulation, giving:
    • Ideal and uniform conditions for crystal growth at every section along the pan;
    • An unusually narrow crystal size distribution;
    • Excellent massecuite exhaustion performance to maximise crystal sugar production; and
    • High energy efficiency through low consumption of steam/ vapour and minimal use of balancing water.
  • Is inherently stable from a operating perspective. Compared to competitive designs:
    • Control instrumentation is minimal;
    • Commissioning is fast and easy;
    • Operation is simple even in off-specification situations, and
    • Feed valve/ piping is simpler.
  • Can be enhanced by fitting extra modules, mechanical stirrers or SRI-designed jigger tube systems.
  • Uses a small number of internal cells of optimal individual cell volumes and separate vapour feeds for each calandria, giving:
    • Rapid and simple emptying, boilout and restart operation;
    • Consistent production performance with minimal operator supervision;
    • Low massecuite boiling head for improved heat transfer; and
    • Increased production capacity, about 30% greater than a batch pan of comparable volume.
