SRI successful in Energy Efficiency
Opportunities (EEO) Tender

The Australian Government's Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO) program encourages large energy-using businesses to improve their energy efficiency. It does this by requiring businesses to identify, evaluate and report publicly on cost effective energy savings opportunities.

To assist the Australian Sugar industry in fulfilling their EEO requirements, The Department of Industry Tourism and Resource (DITR) sought through tender, suitable partners to develop tools allowing a smoother EEO compliance pathway for industry members.

DITR has recently revealed the successful tenderers for the long awaited sugar milling trial on behalf of the Sugar Industry Community of Practice (SICOP).

Sugar Research Institute (in affiliation with Sugar Research and Innovation at QUT) and Sustainable Business Pty Ltd will jointly deliver the required outcomes of the tender.

SRI’s role will be to develop tools and templates to assist the Australian Sugar industry in complying with the EEO requirements and identify genuine energy related cost saving opportunities where possible.

The timetable to deliver the required outcomes of the tender is as follows:

Date

Outcome

6 September

Preliminary meeting at host factory chosen for the trial - CSR Kalamia Mill

11-12 October

Intermediate Workshop - members will be provided with examples of or understand how to identify energy saving opportunities, and better understand the requirements of the EEO process.

6 December

Final Workshop – members will receive feedback re the trial audit at CSR Kalamia Mill and provided with tools / templates to assist with EEO audits at their site.
