SRI is a leading provider of commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solutions to complex industrial problems.

Our clients have benefited from SRI's expertise in CFD, applauding our major successes in sugar processing and adopting our designs achieved using CFD.

Our capabilities include:

  • Development of the SRI New Generation Juice Clarifier. The clarifier is arguably the world’s best performing clarifier design, with all new installations in Australia adopting this design and dozens of installations carried out overseas;
  • Development of the SRI Roberts Evaporator design that has demonstrated improvements to the flow patterns generated within the vessel to increase throughput rates and improve heat transfer performance and steam economy;
  • Greater understanding of the internal flow distribution of clarifiers, leading to improved capacity throughput.
  • Simulation of combustion and tube erosion in bagasse-fired boilers;
  • Simulation and development of a cane trash separation facility;
  • Development of optimal impeller designs that maximize the mixing efficiency and power consumption of vacuum pan stirrers;
  • Development of a computational model for flow inside vacuum pans, including the phase change, bubble dynamics, crystallisation and free surface effects;
  • Development of a computational model for the turbulent flow inside Roberts evaporators, including multiple species, phase change and multiphase effects. The model can predict residence time distribution within the vessel;
  • Development of physical models for the simulation of the gasification of bagasse in a circulating gasifier; and
  • Development of a model for the simulation of the gasification of bagasse in a fluidised bed.

Our specialties in the range of powerful tools offered by CFD software, include:

  • Highly automated geometry creation tools;
  • Sliding meshes;
  • Direct CAD access; and
  • Advanced models for turbulence, combustion and radiation and multiphase flows.

SRI has built its CFD capability over many years and countless research projects. The work has produced these results:
