Roberts Evaporator
SRI’s Roberts evaporator licensed design packages are offered to Australian clients directly, or through our network of global representatives around the world. Our licensed design packages include these components:
- Complete fabrication drawings for the licensed number of Roberts evaporators. The drawings are based on SRI's standard evaporator designs, modified as required to suit your specific needs (note that supply of fabrication drawings is subject to strict confidentiality and usage restrictions);
- Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs);
- Functional specification documents, covering the evaporator and its control systems;
- Operator manual; and
- An on-site commissioning visit to assist with evaporator/ effet station startup and optimisation.
Optional components can include:
- A pre-design site visit to confirm operational requirements.
- A fabrication visit to your nominated engineering works during evaporator fabrication, to confirm adherence to required standards of construction.
- Training programmes for operations personnel on-site by our experienced SRI effet operators.
Many evaporator clients engage SRI for specialist consulting services prior to design and procurement of new evaporator vessels. This ensures that new evaporators are correctly sized and positioned within the effet train for maximum performance, vapour use/ bleed, throughput, and heat transfer. Scaling is also a consideration, as the scale profile changes along the evaporator set. Our capabilities include:
- Advice on vessel sizing and evaporator set configuration;
- The provision of retrofits to existing vessels to incorporate the new technology; and
- Scale treatment regimes.
An Overview of the SRI Roberts evaporator
SRI’s Roberts evaporators retain all the advantages of conventional design (large volume, simple construction, easy access for maintenance and cleaning), improved through extensive factory testing and computation fluid dynamic (CFD) design. They are especially applicable to sugar mills and refineries that rely on vapour bleeding for juice heating or pan stage boiling.
SRI Roberts evaporators provide these benefits:
- Improved evaporator set turndown and consistently smoother operation at low temperature differentials because of attention to steam-side characteristics (pressure drop, noxious gas removal, condensate removal).
- Higher juice processing throughput and improved steam economy, because of better segregation of juice inflows and outflows, combined with an internal arrangement of mini-downtakes to manage juice recirculation within the vessel.
