Seed Crystal Preparation Plant

Magma prepartion plant

SRI's innovative seed conditioning unit processes sugar magma from continuous centrifugals to produce a high quality seed crystal stream ready for crystal growth.

How it works

Small sugar crystal chips and fragments that are present in the sugar magma are removed through two processing steps:
  • A controlled partial dissolution by creating a slightly undersaturated condition; and
  • Crystallisation of the sucrose in solution onto the parent crystals.

SRI's seed conditioning plant implements both processes in continuous flow equipment, with full automation. The benefits are significant:

  • Sugar magma is delivered ready for seeding either batch or continuous vacuum pans without operator intervention;
  • Both poductivity and consistency of pan stage operations is improved;
  • Higher uniformity (lower size distribution) of the crystals produced using the prepared seed magma; and
  • Improved purging of the produced massecuite.

Features of the SRI Design

  • Compact dissolution and crystallisation vessels, suitable for installation at the centrifugal station or on the pan stage;
  • Fully automated operation requiring minimal supervision/ operator attention;
  • Easy cleaning procedures;
  • Low construction and maintenance costs; and
  • Continuous flow plant, with easy adjustment of the controlled parameters.
