Short Retention Juice Clarifier

SRI Short Retention Clarifier

SRI’s short retention clarifier licensed design packages are offered to Australian clients directly, or through our network of global representatives around the world. Our licensed design packages include these components:

  • Complete fabrication drawings for the licensed number of short retention clarifiers, including ancillary equipment such as flash tanks and flocculant preparation systems. The drawings are based on SRI's standard short retention clarifier designs, modified as required to suit your specific needs (note that supply of fabrication drawings is subject to strict confidentiality and usage restrictions);
  • Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs);
  • Functional specification documents, covering the clarifier and control systems;
  • Operator manual; and
  • An on-site commissioning visit to assist with clarifier startup and optimisation.

Optional components can include:

  • A pre-design site visit to confirm operational requirements.
  • A fabrication visit to your nominated engineering works during clarifier fabrication, to confirm adherence to required standards of construction.
  • Training programmes for operations personnel on-site by our experienced SRI clarification operators.

Many clarifier clients specify SRI's colour and turbidity meters for each clarifier, ensuring optimal ESJ quality and reduced usage of additives such as flocculant, lime and phosphoric acid.

An Overview of the SRI Short Retention Juice Clarifier

The SRI short retention juice clarifier is an outstanding success story that continues to provide immense operating savings to our client sugar mills. Designed with SRI’s computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and proprietary modeling techniques, each SRI short retention juice clarifier provides these immediate benefits:

  • Low sugar losses, because inversion is minimized and mud densities are higher (which, in turn, reduces cake losses).
  • Low capital cost, because short retention times mean that a smaller SRI clarifier can easily handle higher throughputs than big and costly multi-tray designs.
  • High sugar quality, because SRI’s careful design process and extensive use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools provides low internal turbulence at high throughputs. The result is low turbidity and minimal bagacillio carryover in the clarified juice, higher sugar quality and less operational issues downstream.
  • Reduced chemical usage, because lower rates of flocculent and lime addition are required to achieve quality targets.

SRI’s licensed design packages for short retention clarifiers are suitable for sugar mills crushing 2,000 to 24,000 tonnes of cane a day. For rates beyond this, we recommend two or more clarifiers.
