Specialised and advanced operations training
These courses provide a more detailed understanding of aspects of factory operation. Optionally, these courses may be customised to suit the specific requirements of clients.
SRI offers a range of other training options. Refer to these links for further details:
Extraction theory and practice for milling engineers (2 days)
The course gives a sound basis for making technical decisions about the operation of shredders, mill settings, and milling control strategies. The course covers the theory associated with shredding and milling, and includes workshop sessions to cover the practical issues associated with mill setting and control.
The course is targeted at engineers who are or will be responsible for making decisions associated with setting mills, and senior engineers who are responsible for ensuring satisfactory milling performance.
Advanced process supervision (2 days)
This course covers all areas of factory operation from juice flow control to sugar drying. It also includes areas of factory efficiency, sugar quality and recovery. The course includes workshop sessions which address planning for planning for increased energy efficiency, factory processing upgrades and new technologies.
The course is designed for participants from a chemical or engineering background who possess a sound working knowledge of factory operation and several years of shift supervision experience. It is aimed at people working in or likely to attain areas of technical management or factory project planning.
ACTSS users’ course (2 days)
The Animated Cane Transport Scheduling System (ACTSS) is a program for checking, simulating and animating a daily transport schedule for cane railway networks. This course covers its operation in a PC environment. The course covers setting up the TOTools ledgers and MapInfo network files required by ACTSS, running the simulator and animator, and interpreting the reports.
The course is designed for traffic officers and transport schedulers. It assumes no prior knowledge of ACTSS. Knowledge of the TOTools package would be an advantage.
ACRSS users’ course (2 days)
The Automatic Cane Railway Scheduling System (ACRSS) is a program for automatically generating optimum daily transport schedules based on harvester, network and locomotive details. This course covers ACRSS operation in a PC environment, running ACRSS as a stand-alone system, importing data from TOTools, and exporting ledgers back to TOTools.
The course is designed for transport schedulers and traffic planners involved in preseason planning and long term strategic planning. It assumes no prior knowledge of ACRSS, but knowledge of the TOTools package would be an advantage.
Extraction refresher course (1 day)
This course focuses on cane preparation, shredder and milling train operation. Participants will be asked to nominate their areas of interest and the allocation of presentation time will be adjusted to suit the group.
The course is directed at staff that have completed other SRI extraction courses in a prior year, and are looking to update and refresh their knowledge of extraction plant and processes.
Mill setting refresher course (1 day)
This course focuses on mill setting calculations and making mill setting decisions. It makes hands-on use of SRI’s MILSET mill setting software. This course reinforces learnings from earlier extraction courses and provides an opportunity for those who have commenced making mill setting decisions to discuss their experiences and to resolve any outstanding problems.
The course is directed at staff that have completed other SRI extraction courses in a prior year, and are aiming to better understand the process of mill setting and making mill setting decisions within their factory.
Steam generation refresher course (1 day)
This course focuses onthe operation and maintenance of boilers, as well as boiler theory. Participants will be asked to nominate their areas of interest and the allocation of presentation time will be adjusted to suit the group.
The course is directed at staff that have completed steam generation courses in a prior year, and are looking to update and refresh their knowledge of steam generation.
CPS refresher course (2 days)
This course focuses on process supervision, from juice heating to sugar drying, and includes sections on sugar quality, factory efficiency, recovery and trouble shooting. Group discussion will feature throughout the course. Participants will be asked to nominate their areas of interest and the allocation of presentation time will be adjusted to suit the group.
The course is directed at staff that have completed the chemical process supervision course in a prior year or have good experience in process supervision, and are looking to update and refresh their knowledge of sugar process supervision.
